Memorial Day 2009
Memorial Day 2009
For the second year in a row, Knights have taken part in the Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony held at Chapel by the Sea. This year, Gil, Erik, Jerry, Rudy, Deacon Ben Salvan, Edison Nuqui, Danny Thomas, and Jake Attman sang with Clorinda Campagna, accompanied by Father Piers Lahey on the keyboards. Deacon Noel Santillan took pictures. (see photo section) Deacon Jim blessed the Memorial Wreath. There were Knights all over the place!
San Diego Convention:
San Diego Convention:
Erik and Jerry also spent a long weekend together in San Diego, attending the California State Knights of Columbus Convention. We met many officers with whom we shared ideas on fund raising and membership. There were many speeches; the ones that left a lasting impression on me touched on the passion we must strive to muster on a consistent basis in our Council activities (as well as our daily activities and pursuits). We were reminded that we are the right hand of the Church and of our Pastor. We were also reminded that without the support of our wives, families, and friends we would not succeed, and that teamwork within the Council is crucial.

Cursillo! Grand Knight Gil Eliares, Grand Knight-elect Erik Doran, and Financial Secretary Jerry Henderson attended a Cursillo in San Francisco May 28-31. It was an emotional and uplifting experience. I personally recommend attending one when given the opportunity.

Taize Prayer Service (Around the Cross) March 11, 2009
This is a relaxing and meditative way to pray in the Taize tradition, -a very nice way to be in touch with God this Lent.
The origin of this service comes from a prayer community in Taize, France. It is now a service that happens in many countries.
The service includes short meditative songs, scripture reading, period of silence, intercessions, prayer around the cross and closing songs.
The environment is full of candles.

Knight's Mass
Knight's Mass
June 15, 2008
We had our first "Knight's Mass" on June 15 at noon (Father's Day) where all who served Mass were Knights or their relatives. We hope to have these Masses on a regular basis (at least once a quarter), rotating among the various Mass times. Thanks to all who participated.

Worthy Brothers,
I want to thank you all for another successful Knight's Choir (1-18-09) and assisting in all the ministries. We are singing better and better every time.
Thank you Father Piers for your unending support for your brother Knights. Thank you also Bing for making beautiful music through your excellent guitar playing.
It's always a success when majority come. Vivat Jesus!

Worthy Brothers,
It was nice to see so many brother Knights singing in the Choir today (12-21-08). Thank you for coming and joining us in singing our praises to our Lord.
After the Mass, Deacon Ben, brother Don, Bing and me joined other parishioners and did caroling at the Pacifica Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. We put some smiles in the faces of many patients.
Thank you again for serving the Church and the community. God Bless!
Vivat Jesus!

Worthy Brothers,
Thank you so much for coming and supporting the Marian Council Choir of the Knights of Columbus this Sunday (11-16-08). Most members of the choir have guests from far away places that
they can't come to join us.

Thank you very much for your participation in today's Noon Mass Choir (8-17-08). I thought we did well in singing our praises to our Lord God.
Thank you for offering your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. Thank you Father Piers for helping us and playing good music in the piano. Vivat Jesus!
Yours in Christ,
Brother Gil

Marian Council 55th Anniversary
Marian Council 55th Anniversary
55 Years! The Anniversary Dinner on May 23rd at Nick’s was an evening enjoyed by all. The food was excellent; the entertainment was outstanding (singing by Michelle Eliares-Gil’s niece—and Julianne Parayo—Rudy’s daughter. We had many guests and longtime Knights in attendance; it was nice to PGK Sir Knight Nemer Gonzalez and his wife Rachel as well as Sir Knight Basil (Butch) Moreto and his wife Lourdes. 4th Degree Master and District Deputy Romy Quevedo was the keynote speaker and Brother Jeff Patino served admirably as Master of Ceremonies. Brother Raul Mercado created and presented a wonderful slide show of past and present members and events; he is also the one who designed the lovely invitations. Brothers Marc Ormando and Richard Irwin did a fantastic job of setting up (and tearing down) the room. Two awards were presented by Grand Knight Gil Eliares: he selected Jerry Henderson as Knight of the Year and the Haugs (Deacon Jim and Sandy) as Family of the Year. The dinner would not have happened were it not for the vision and persistence of our Worthy Grand Knight. I’m looking forward to the 110th Anniversary in 2064!
Beach Cleanup 4-18-09
Beach Cleanup 4-18-09
Dear Brothers,
Regarding our morning at the Beach Cleanup, we arrived at 9 AM, got our instructions and equipment, and we cleaned up the area on the beach and the trails above the beach half way to Linda Mar. There were many other people there, and as the say goes, “Many hands make the work light.” We finished about 10 to 10:15 AM. The bags from everyone who participated half-filled a pickup truck. (FYI, the items we picked up the most of were cigarette butts, and the non disintegrating filters are what the birds are eating!)
I would like to personally thank each one who was there. Brother Efrain was there with his two sons. Brother Richard was there with his two daughters. Brother Raul was there with his camera and took pictures before and which will probably be on the website soon. I really want to thank Efrain and Richard for bringing their children also because you are teaching them to “live lightly on the earth” and protecting God’s creation, which is important for the next generation.
You are tremendous representatives of the Knights of Columbus to the community.
God bless you,
Brother Don

We had our first day of work prepping the Hall for painting. Although we got a lot accomplished, we believe at least one more day of prep will be required (June 7, 9:00 a.m.) and hopefully we'll be ready to paint the following Saturday. We'll discuss further at the 6/5 meeting.
Thank you to Brothers Gil Eliares, Jerald Henderson, Erik Doran, Marc Ormando and Raul Mercado who participated and thanks in advance to those who will help in the future; we need all of the help we can get.

April 26; Rebuilding Together: Peninsula
Grand Knight Gil and Jerry Henderson worked at a site in Vallemar on 4/26, helping renovate a home owned by an elderly, financially strapped woman and her son. The bathroom had been renovated prior the week; the exterior and interior were being painted, while Gil and Jerry and the rest of our front and backyard gardening/hauling crew cleaned up long-neglected yards. It was a full day's work, but very rewarding. We had many Brothers volunteer, buthaven't heard from anyone else regarding their work. There were four sites in Pacifica and seventy throughout the Peninsula. Hopefully, our Council will become a dependable partner for this annual event.

FUNDRAISING CASINO TRIP 2008- THANK YOU!
FUNDRAISING CASINO TRIP 2008- THANK YOU!
Worthy Brothers,
We had our first Fundraising Casino Trip yesterday, Aug. 30 and we got there and back safely. Let us give thanks to the Lord for that. Total passengers were 43, seven short of what's required. So, we were penalized $20 per person short which cost us $140.00.
Fortunately, a good hearted parishioner donated $140 when she found out our situation. There are still some good people in this world. Let us not grow tired of doing good.
I'd like to thank you all for supporting our project and to Father Piers and our three Deacons for making Pulpit announcements for the past four weekends in a row.
We can accomplished many things even greater things if we work together.
In unity and in Christ,
Brother Gil
